La Divina Comedia (modern Italian: Divina Commedia, Tuscan: La Divina Comedìa) is a seminal poem written by Dante Alighieri. The exact dates of its composition remain uncertain, yet widely accepted views suggest that the Inferno was likely written between 1304 and 1307 or 1308, followed by the Purgatorio from 1307 or 1308 to 1313 or 1314, and concluding with the Paradiso from 1313 or 1314 until the poet's death in 1321.

This intricate work is believed to have been composed alongside Dante's other significant texts, including the Convivium and De Vulgari Eloquentia. The De Monarchia, another notable work, likely belongs to Dante's later creative phases, during which he also produced lesser-known pieces: the Cuestión de agua y la tierra and two eclogues in response to poems by Giovanni de Regina.

La Divina Comedia stands as Dante's magnum opus and is widely regarded as a cornerstone in the transition from medieval thought, characterized by its theocentric view, to Renaissance humanism, which emphasized an anthropocentric perspective.
